Anonymous Giants official opens up about Pablo Sandoval’s eating habits
"Pablo would claim they didn’t feed the players after the game, but they certainly did."
Pablo Sandoval’s weight has long been scrutinized. Before his belly became a topic of internet interest during the Red Sox’ previous two spring trainings, the San Francisco Giants were keeping an eye on Sandoval’s weight.
Recently, an anonymous Giants official opened up about the third baseman’s eating habits in San Francisco.
“His ex-wife would have full meals for him after every home game. Pablo would claim they didn’t feed the players after the game, but they certainly did. His wife thought he was starving so he’d get this huge meal,” a Giants official told The Boston Globe.
There were stories about how he would have two large pizzas awaiting him when the team arrived to a certain city.
At one point during his tenure with San Francisco, the Giants reportedly banned Sandoval from getting room service. Sandoval, who is likely out for the 2016 season with a shoulder injury, commented on his restrictions with the Giants in March 2015.
“If I had signed (with the Giants), I knew I would be under a (weight) regimen for five years,” Sandoval said. “And I’m not going to be happy someplace where I’m under that kind of regimen, where I can’t be myself.”
