Fenway Park set to screen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in late June
"Hey, batter-batter-batter, hey, batter-batter-batter-saaaa-wing-batter!"
In June of 1986, the Red Sox dominated the AL East, holding on to the first place spot for all 30 days of the month, while Ferris Bueller’s Day Off enjoyed moderate box office success in its first few weeks in theaters. Thirty years later, the Sox enter June leading the AL East once again, while the John Hughes film has earned classic status in American cinema history, as well as its own night at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox announced Wednesday that Fenway Park would hold a screening of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on June 29th to honor the film’s pearl anniversary.
The movie centers around Ferris Bueller, who, according to the press release, is “a teen who feigns illness in order to skip school and spend a carefree day exploring Chicago with his friends.” Despite heavy themes of truancy, the screening is being promoted as an event for the whole family, with ticket prices for children under the age of 12 being set at $5, $10 for adults, and no charge for season ticket holders. The film is rated PG-13.
The park will be opened at 7 p.m. for the 8:15 showing.
The movie stars Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller (also Abe Froman), Alan Ruck as his best friend Cameron (also George Peterson), and Mia Sara as Ferris’ girlfriend, Sloane (just Sloane).
