Blake Swihart recalled from Pawtucket, will start in left field Friday night
Despite playing just 11 games in left field in his professional career, Blake Swihart will get his shot in front of the Green Monster on Friday night.
The Red Sox recalled Swihart from Triple-A Pawtucket Friday afternoon and are wasting no time trying their opening day catcher in the outfield, announcing that the 24-year-old switch hitter will bat ninth and play in left against the Cleveland Indians.
Swihart made just one error on 23 chances in the outfield for Pawtucket this season.
Additionally, the Red Sox placed Brock Holt on the seven-day concussion disabled list and Carson Smith on the 15-day disabled list, and recalled relief pitcher Noe Ramirez.
