David Ortiz: ‘Would you leave $25 million on the table?’

"I don’t want nobody to offer me that,” Ortiz said.

David Ortiz isn’t rethinking retirement yet. The slugger announced in November that the 2016 season would be his last. But the media has been second-guessing his retirement with regularity this season.

“I’m happy with the decision that I made,” Ortiz told Yahoo.com on Tuesday, “and my feet are happy with the decision that I made, and my wife is happy with the decision that I made. I’ve got to wait until next year when I ain’t doing [expletive] to see how it’s gonna hit home. Because I’m not gonna lie to you, I don’t know. I think I played enough baseball.”

The 40-year-old has been outstanding this season with 44 hits, 10 homers, and 34 RBIs. In 34 games, his batting split is .312/.391/.652.

“Hopefully, nobody comes to me and offers $25 million, either,” Ortiz said.

Wait, what?

“I don’t even want to talk about it,” Ortiz said. “Like I said, I’m good with the decision that I made right now. But would you leave $25 million on the table? I don’t want nobody to offer me that.”

The Red Sox have a club option on Ortiz for 2017 worth up to $16 million.
