David Price on his rough start to season: ‘This sucks’
David Price’s ERA climbed to 6.75 after the Red Sox’ 6-2 loss to the Yankees on Saturday. Boston’s ace threw 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits, four earned runs, four strikeouts, and three walks.
The 30-year-old starter was asked what’s been different for him in 2016. According to Fangraphs.com, Price’s average fastball velocity is the slowest of his career at 92 mph.
“I don’t know, honestly,” Price told reporters after Saturday’s loss, via The Boston Globe. “That’s something I’ve got to figure out.”
Price was taken out of the game in the fifth inning after allowing a Carlos Beltran double which scored two runners.
“This sucks. It’s not fun for me. I want to enjoy it. I’ve got to get better,” Price said. “I feel good. My health is not a concern. Honestly, I feel good out there.”
Despite his struggles, Price owns a 4-1 record for the Sox. His 11.54 strikeouts per nine innings is also second best in MLB.
“I know how I can throw the baseball out there,” Price said, via RedSox.com. “It’s just not happening right now. This has definitely been the toughest stretch and the longest stretch. It’s been tough, for sure. I know things are going to turn around. I’m still positive.”
