Morning Sports Update: John Farrell says starting rotation’s ‘execution has got to improve’
Good morning, sports fans.
Clay Buchholz and the Red Sox lose to the Orioles, David Ortiz remains optimistic, and Brad Stevens doesn’t appear to care about playoff scenarios.
John Farrell says starting rotation’s ‘execution has got to improve’: “Last couple of games we’ve started with a lead, but still, it’s a matter of going out and executing pitches,” said manager John Farrell after the Red Sox’s 9-5 loss to the Orioles on Tuesday night. “The job of a starter is going to require two, three times through the order, and that’s going to require a mixture of pitches and consistent execution. The execution has got to improve.” (RedSox.com)
David Ortiz says ‘It’ll be fine. It’s early’: “Are you panicking?” Ortiz asked a reporter after Tuesday’s game. “Go home and buy a black cat then. That means you’re scared. … No pain, no gain. It’ll be fine. It’s early. That’s what I believe. I know our pitching staff is going to bounce back and put it together. It’s a matter of time.” (NESN.com)
