Dustin Pedroia arrived to Red Sox 2016 spring training Monday in a Jeep that looked more like a tank than a car. The truck is unique, one of two in the world, Pedroia said.

To give the Bandit model that sheet metal pickup bed, the car’s maker, Starwood Motors, chopped a Jeep Wrangler in half.
“We take the back end of that Jeep, and cut it off,’’ said Davis Speight, general manager of the Dallas, Texas-based Jeep dealer. “Then it has a bed of essentially a Toyota Tacoma. Then we mount that onto the frame, which extends the car 38 inches.’’

Pedroia’s custom version of the Bandit includes a removable hard top and a welded steel cross for torsional strength. The car can sell for as much as $300,000, but Starwood Motors says Pedroia paid significantly less for it.
“It’s a pretty big, labor-intensive build,’’ Speight said.
