Tom Brady has said he won’t retire until he sucks.

Red sox relief pitcher Koji Uehara seems to have similar plans. The 40-year-old righty, who finished the 2015 season on the disabled list after suffering a fractured wrist in August, addressed his age and retirement plans on Tuesday in Fort Myers.

“When you’re on the field, age doesn’t matter. I don’t think about those things,’’ Uehara told The Boston Globe with the assistance of translator C.J. Matsumoto. “If I can decide how long I will play, then I will keep on going. As long as somebody offers me a contract, I will play.

“If I do terrible and no team wants to take me, I will retire. But not until then.’’

It sounds a lot like the philosophy that Brady shared in September 2014: “When I suck, I’ll retire.’’

In Uehara’s 43 games during the 2015 season, he threw 40.1 innings with a 2.23 ERA and had 25 saves. Perhaps the 40-year-old could start eating like Brady, to help extend his career. Of course, Brady is just 38 years old. He may need to study Uehara’s notes on battling age.
