The Red Sox traded Garin Cecchini to the Milwaukee Brewers for cash considerations, the team announced Thursday. The Sox designated the third base prospect for reassignment last week to make room for free agent signee David Price.

“We thought that we’d be in that position,’’ Dombrowski said of trading Cecchini at the Winter Meetings on Wednesday, “but we’ve made quite a few additions to the roster so being in a spot where we’ve added, you have to take guys off (the roster). But we anticipated there would be some interest.’’

With the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox in 2015, Cecchini posted a .213 batting average, a .286 on-base percentage, and .296 slugging percentage. In 2015, he also had four major league at-bats and three strikeouts.
