David Ortiz says he’s cool with new teammate David Price
David Ortiz has no beef with David Price. Honest.
The longtime Red Sox slugger told a Dominican radio station Wednesday that he’ll accept Price onto the Red Sox with open arms. You may remember that the two players had something of a feud.
“No problems. All that’s in the past. Now he is my partner,’’ Ortiz told 102.5 FM in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, via ESPNdeportes. “When a person joins your cause, you must leave the past in the past.’’
Ortiz had some pointed comments for Price in May of 2014 after the pitcher, then with the Rays, drilled him with a pitch. More back and forth followed.
“First at-bat of the season against me he drilled me? I mean, it’s a war. It’s on,’’ Ortiz said . “Next time he hits me he better bring the gloves.’’
The Red Sox reached a seven-year, $217 million deal with Price on Tuesday, according to the Boston Globe.
“We need pitching and David Price is a great pitcher and has showed that for years. I hope he will help us,’’ Ortiz told 102.5 FM in Santo Domingo. “It’s a marquee pitcher, and that’s what we need.’’
