David Ortiz has announced he will retire after the 2016 season.
After reports surfaced on Tuesday about the slugger’s looming retirement, Ortiz posted a video to The Players’ Tribune Wednesday, on his 40th birthday, making it official.

The 40-year-old is a 19-year MLB veteran, and has spent 13 seasons with the Boston Red Sox. He has won three World Series, and is a nine-time All-Star.
The Sox tweeted about Ortiz’s retirement, then later released a statement from owner John Henry.
