Red Sox trade chatter has centered around the pursuit of an ace. But a notable bullpen arm has emerged as a trade target.

As first reported by FoxSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal, the Boston Red Sox are pursuing closer Aroldis Chapman in a trade. The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham reported the Sox have “great interest’’ in the 27-year-old lefty.

Reports of the Sox’s interest came after baseball reporter Peter Gammons reported Thursday Chapman would be moved by the end of the week. But the Cuban closer’s contract, which ends after the 2016 season, may complicate things.

“I don’t know if we’re in a position to say there’s any untouchables,’’ Reds president of operations Walt Jocketty said, via Cincinnati.com. “There’s certainly guys who would be much more difficult to move, but we have to be open minded to whatever we can do to improve the club for the long term.’’

Still, in a thin market of closers, the asking price may be high for Chapman, who had 33 saves, a 1.63 era, and 116 strikeouts in 66.1 innings pitched in 2015.
