Watch Jonny Gomes’ ranting, American flag-waving World Series parade speech
Kansas City Royals — and former Red Sox — outfielder Jonny Gomes didn’t have a single plate appearance in his team’s five-game World Series win over the New York Mets this week. But that doesn’t mean Gomes didn’t get excited about another championship.

Gomes began his speech by asking for a moment of silence for a few of his Royals teammates, who had persevered through tragedy during the season — Mike Moustakas, who lost his mother; Chris Young, who lost his father; and Edinson Volquez, who lost his father just before he started Game 1 of the series on the mound.
“It’s unbelievable what those boys did,’’ Gomes said, repeatedly.
(Two years ago, following the Red Sox’s World Series victory, Gomes similarly took a moment to tribute the fallen. Along with Jarrod Saltalamacchia, the outfielder got off their duck boat on Boylston Street and put the World Series trophy on the marathon finish line, draped in a “Boston Strong’’ Red Sox jersey.)
Gomes’ Kansas City speech Tuesday finished on a more celebratory note — with a raucous, literal mic drop. Transcript via Deadspin here:
Hey, guess what? Cy Young winner: Not on our team. Beat him. Rookie of the year: Not on our team. We beat him. MVP of the whole league? Sorry, guys, not on our team. But we beat that guy, too!

Y’all wanna be politically correct? I’m an unpolitically correct person. WE WHOOPED THEIR A–!
Gomes then tossed the mic and — American flag still in-hand — joined his teammates jumping in joy.
Here’s a photo of Gomes spraying his teammates with champagne after the Royals’ World Series win.
