Red Sox players help fans with Ice Bucket Challenge
A month after the Red Sox kicked off the second round of the Ice Bucket Challenge by dumping water on players and staff, they closed it by dumping water on fans.
Fans were invited last week to take part in an auction to have one of seven players dump water on them. They received their prize Monday afternoon. Participants included David Ortiz, Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts.
Winners also received Spring Training jerseys worn March 3 by the Red Sox to honor Ice Bucket Challenge creator and former Boston College baseball star Pete Frates, as well as two tickets to Monday night’s game against the Yankees.
A Red Sox spokesperson said the auction raised nearly $7,000.
