Mike Aviles’s cancer-stricken daughter throws out first pitch for Indians

Hardship has brought together the “baseball family’’ and actual family of Cleveland Indians utility player Mike Aviles.

The Indians organization has showed support for Aviles’s daughter, Adriana, who was diagnosed with leukemia in May. The team got her a horse and shaved their heads, and on Thursday, they invited Adriana and her sister, Maiya, to throw the opening pitch before the Indians matchup against the Yankees.

Aviles needed to take time off when Adriana was diagnosed, and the Indians approved the hiatus. Aviles told MLB.com that general manager Chris Antonetti said, “sometimes baseball is second. Family comes first.’’
