Monday’s doubleheader perfectly summed up the debacle that is the Red Sox season

Eight hours of misery.

The Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim played two games Monday, on account of a rare Southern California rainout the day before.

It didn’t go well.

Boston was outscored, 18-4, in the doubleheader, as the Angels completed the sweep.

In the first game, the Angels beat up on Red Sox rookie starter Eduardo Rodriguez. Boston’s manager John Farrell pulled the 22-year-old after he allowed seven runs in 1 2/3 innings, and the Angels went on to win, 11-1.

Even when good things were happening, bad feelings were apparent. David Ortiz seemingly dropped his bat in frustration after hitting a home run.

Still, it wouldn’t be a true Red Sox outing if Mookie Betts didn’t give the loss a silver lining with a jaw-dropping play. In the second game, which was a 7-3 Red Sox loss, Betts tracked down a hard hit to center field.

The Red Sox start a three-game series with the Houston Astros on Tuesday.

What if the Red Sox were all homegrown?
