Massachusetts highways say vote Xander Bogaerts for MLB All-Star Game

But also don’t text and drive. Photo courtesy of Matt Wong

The electronic highway signs usually reserved for warning commuters of snow or traffic took on a higher calling Thursday afternoon: getting out the All-Star Game vote for Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts.

Drivers said they spotted highway signs along the I-95, I-93, I-91, and the Mass Pike — as far west as Worcester and Holyoke.

The 22-year-old would be the youngest Red Sox All-Star in 48 years, but needs some help. According to the most recent round of fan voting, Bogaerts trails the four other AL All-Star candidatesfor the final spot.

The Red Sox have championed the cause, changing the teams Twitter handle to #XforASG and launching an aggressive social media campaign to vote him into the All Star Game.

In case you were wondering, Gov. Charlie Baker has seemingly endorsed Bogaerts’ candidacy:

To vote for Bogaerts, you can text A1 to 89269 or vote online, but wait until you finished driving to your destination or pull off to the side of the road. And remember to use ya blinkah.

Red Sox All-Stars you probably forgot
