The four most valuable players on the Red Sox this season earn less than Pablo Sandoval

It’s no secret Pablo Sandoval’s massive contract has been a disappointment so far, but these stats really put into perspective just how little return the Red Sox have seen on their investment.

According to The Boston Herald’s Jason Mastrodonato, the Red Sox’ top four players by Baseball-Reference WAR are making a combined $14 million this season.

Meanwhile, Sandoval is making $17 million this season and will make $87 million total salary through 2019, plus a $17 million club option or $5 million buyout in 2020. He’s accounted for -0.1 bWAR through the Red Sox’ win over the Royals on Sunday.
