This MLB star’s Father’s Day gift was probably better than whatever you gave your dad
Max Scherzer’s Father’s Day gift wasn’t quite perfect, but it was still probably better than whatever you got your dad this year.
Eschewing boring standbys like neck ties, gift certificates or household gadgets, the 30-year-old Washington Nationals pitcher gave his father something handmade this year: The right-handed ace threw a no-hitter for dear old dad. With his parents, Brad and Jan, in the stands at Nationals Park on Saturday, Scherzer came within one strike of the 22nd perfect game in MLB history. A day later, Scherzer gave father’s everywhere a reason to reconsider how happy they were with the tokens of esteem they’d received.
“It was great to be able to share last night with them as well,’’ Scherzer said Sunday, via ESPN. “That’s what my dad wanted [for Father’s Day]. He doesn’t want a tie. I have game him a no-hitter, so he’s pretty happy.’’
