Sorry Red Sox, Jonny Gomes can’t help you snap losing skid

‘I’m not here to give advice by any means’

Sorry Sox, Jonny can’t help you.

Jonny Gomes isn’t here to talk about the past.

The former Red Sox outfielder made that clear during media availability on Monday, as the 34-year-old said he can’t help his former clubmates break out of their losing skid that has now reached seven games.

“Unfortunately for them, I’m not here to give advice by any means,’’ Gomes told reporters before his Atlanta Braves beat the Red Sox 4-2 on Monday. “I have a lot of good friends in that clubhouse and on the staff, but I wear a different uniform now. I’m here hopefully to put two more losses in their loss column.

“The bonds that we built and the ring that we have says ‘2013 [World Series champions].’ It’s 2015.’’

Monday marked Gomes’s first game back at Fenway Park since he was dealt to the Oakland A’s at the 2014 trade deadline. He signed a one-year contract with the Braves this offseason.

From his clutch pinch-hit homers to his army helmet-wearing, beer can-punting celebrations, Gomes’s role in bringing a World Series title to Boston will not be soon forgotten.

But right now, he’s just another Red Sox opponent hoping to do what he can to help his own team win ballgames.
