Wade Miley may have just summed up the entire 2015 Red Sox season: “It is what it is.’’

Miley used that phrase to address a heated argument he had with Boston manager John Farrell in the dugout during the team’s 6-5 loss to the Orioles on Thursday night in Baltimore. The fiery exchange came after Farrell removed Miley from the game after four innings on the mound. The 28-year-old left-handed starting pitcher had surrendered five runs on nine hits.

“You work four days for your start — he didn’t want to come out of the game. That’s his competitive spirit coming through,’’ Farrell said after the loss, via The Associated Press. “I fully respect that. I thought he had good stuff overall, but where we were in the game I thought we needed a change in contrast, change of style, so we made a move.’’

The defeat dropped Miley’s record to 5-6 on the season as the Red Sox fell to 27-34. After the game, he downplayed the dugout debate.

“That’s between me and John,’’ Miley said, via MLB.com. “It is what it is. … It’s fine. Everything that happened is over.’’
