Umpire displays MMA-style promise with takedown of Matt Kemp
What if Major League Baseball umpires were also WWE superstars or highly trained UFC fighters?
We’ll likely never know, but umpire Jordan Baker provided a small taste of what life with baseball as MMA could really be when Atlanta Braves pitcher Julio Teheran drilled San Diego Padres outfielder Matt Kemp with a pitch when the two teams met Thursday afternoon at Turner Field. In an attempt to keep the peace after Kemp and Teheran started barking at each other and the dugouts emptied, Baker straight dropped Kemp when the veteran center fielder appeared to be on the verge of charging the mound.

[fragment number=1]That’s some impressive quickness and agility by Baker on the takedown. Turn that baseball diamond into an Octagon and he’s got a real future ahead of him.
