Red Sox manager John Farrell called a meeting with five veterans Sunday morning amid a six-game stretch that has seen the team win just once, The Providence Journalreported.

The players were David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Mike Napoli, Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez.

“The short version of it would be for us to play with some aggressiveness and some smartness inside a game situation, without getting too detailed,’’ Farrell told Tim Britton of The Providence Journal. “It was an opportunity to meet with our veteran group, to reemphasize the importance of the role that they provide to the younger players, and how they go about and execute inside the game.’’

The Red Sox lost 8-0 on Sunday night, their worst margin of defeat since an April 26 contest in Baltimore and their third-worst margin overall in 2015. The team managed just five hits in the shutout and Wade Miley allowed six runs (five earned) in 4 innings after allowing just three runs in his last 21 2/3 innings.

The Red Sox are playing the last game of a four-game set against the Texans on Sunday afternoon. They will return to Fenway Park on Monday for a seven-game homestand against the Twins and Athletics.
