Watch Hanley Ramirez completely forget how to throw a baseball

05/20/15: Boston, MA: In the top of the 7th inning, the Rangers Leonys Martin hit a ball off left field wall, and when Red Sox LF Hanley Ramirez fielded it and went to throw the ball to second base over a ducking Mookide Betts, he lost control of the ball and threw it almost directly into the ground. The play was ruled a double, with Martin taking third base onan error. The Boston Red Sox hosted the Texas Rangers in a regular season MLB game at Fenway Park. Red Sox fans are accustomed to seeing some wonky plays in left field at Fenway Park, but Hanley Ramirez still managed to surprise everyone when he made a comical relay throw in the seventh inning Wednesday night.

The Rangers’ Leonys Martin smacked a double off the left field wall, and Ramirez played it on one hop and turned to throw the ball into the infield. What ensued was a humorous sequence where Ramirez all but dropped the baseball and Mookie Betts had to make the throw into third base, where Martin advanced on the error.

The play didn’t cost Boston any runs on the scoreboard, as Joe Kelly escaped the jam by striking out the next two batters to end the inning. The play also reminded us of another Ramirez who used to patrol left field at Fenway.
