Reports: Red Sox to Call Up Swihart After Hanigan Fractures Knuckle
The Blake Swihart era begins Saturday, according to multiple reports that he will be called up to the big leagues to replace Ryan Hanigan.

Multiple reports indicate Hanigan, the team’s starting catcher, has a fractured knuckle that will require surgery and cause him to miss significant time.

Hanigan left Friday night’s game against the Yankees in the top of the seventh inning. New York’s Mark Teixeira was hit by a pitch and the ball ricocheted off Hanigan’s right, non-gloved hand.

Swihart has hit .338 in 18 games at AAA Pawtucket thus far this season. The switch-hitting backstop will be tasked immediately with managing a struggling pitching staff.
