What Major League Baseball Looks – And Sounds – Like in an Empty Stadium

Here’s a look at some of the sights and sounds from the first major league game ever played in front of zero fans.

The Baltimore Orioles beat the Chicago White Sox, 8-2, on Wednesday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in the first major league game ever played in front of zero fans.

With both Monday and Tuesday’s contests postponed due to the Freddie Gray protests and subsequent violence in Baltimore, MLB decided they could not reschedule a third straight game, and played the contest with no fans in attendance.

Here’s a look at some of the sights and sounds from the game that lasted just over two hours.

Chris Davis gave the Orioles a 4-0 lead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and some cheering could be heard from fans standing outside the stadium gates.

Later in the game, Davis flipped the ball high into the “crowd’’ after the Orioles got out of the top of the fifth.

With Adam Jones up in the seventh, the MASN broadcasters decided to try out their best “Masters’’ commentary with the silence in the ballpark reminding them of the famed golf tournament.
