Home Opener: Fenway Is Ready for Business

Home is where the Monster is.

After opening their 2015 campaign on the road, the Red Sox are ready to return to Fenway Park. The snow is finally gone and Boston’s green cathedral is ready to open its gates as it has every season for more than a century.

The Red Sox host the Washington Nationals for their first home date of the season on Monday. The Sox visited the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees before heading back to Boston.

The first pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. Rick Porcello is set to start for the hosts with Jordan Zimmerman scheduled to be on the mound for the defending NL East champion Nationals. Porcello took the loss in his first start of the season, surrendering three runs on six hits over six innings against the Phillies.

“It’s a huge thrill to get that opportunity to pitch the home opener at Fenway Park,’’ said Porcello about getting the starting nod, via MLB.com. “That’s a dream-come-true opportunity. It looks like it’s going to be a nice day. It should be a lot of fun.’’

As fans can see in the video above, Wally the Green Monster and the park both look ready for fun.
