Joe Kelly Dominates Yankees in Red Sox 8-4 Win
Joe Kelly did his part to make sure there was no ultramarathon in the Bronx.
Less than 12 hours after his teammates outlasted the Yankees in an epic 19-inning affair, Kelly took the mound at Yankee Stadium and delivered a dominant one-hit outing in a 8-4 win for the Red Sox. Kelly, who was activated from the disabled list before his start, struck out eight and allowed just one run over seven innings.

“He was outstanding, particularly from the third inning on,’’ Red Sox manager John Farrell said in the clubhouse after game, as seen on NESN. “He settled into a very good rhythm, a lot of strikes. He was efficient, enabling him to get through seven solid innings. But the sharpness to his slider was well above average. He held his velocity throughtout, and really gave us a shot in the arm by going seven innings on a day after last night.’’
After allowing a single and a pair of walks in the second inning, Kelly retired the final 17 batters he faced. The Sox held a commanding 8-1 lead when the 26-year old righthander departed.
