Brock Holt’s Big Day Helps Red Sox Run Over Yankees After Marathon
Brock Holt had one thing going for him that none of his superstar teammates did: He was rested.
Holt, the only Red Sox position player who did not appear in the team’s 19-inning marathon win over the Yankees on Friday, provided a major lift off the bench in a 8-4 win on Saturday afternoon. Getting his first start of the 2015 campaign in center field, Holt went 4-for-5 at the plate in the leadoff spot. The 26-year old utility player put the game out of reach with a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning.

With the first pitch coming less than 12 hours after the conclusion of the historic opening game of the series, Holt wasn’t the only reserve player in Red Sox manager John Farrell’s lineup. Allen Craig got the start in right field, his first of the season. He went hitless, but produced a defensive highlight, robbing New York’s John Ryan Murphy of a base hit with a sliding catch in the fifth inning with the Red Sox holding a 2-1 lead.
