Thanks in part to a bases-clearing, bloop triple from shortstop Xander Bogaerts, the Red Sox rolled to a 6-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday night. With the bases loaded in the top of the third inning, Bogaerts lifted a ball into right field that dropped in front of Phillies outfielder Jeff Francoeur and just inside the foul line. The ball skittered away from Francoeur as Bogaerts’ teammates made for home. The three runs scored stretched Boston’s lead to 5-0.

Bogaerts would come around to score when pitcher Justin Masterson drove him in with an RBI single. The 22-year-old notched two more hits and a walk in his other plate appearances in Philadelphia on Thursday night. In the first two games of the 2015 season, Bogaerts had been 1-for-7 with two strikeouts.
