Juan Pierre Retires, Jokes About His Lack of Power

Veteran outfielder Juan Pierre officially announced his retirement on Friday, and took some time to poke a bit of fun at himself when it comes to belting round-trippers.

The longtime Florida Marlins’ great took to Twitter later on in the evening, saying there was just one thing that he regretted about his 14-year MLB career.

He may not have hit too many home runs, but Pierre was electrifying to watch throughout the 2000s. In his first year with the Marlins in 2003, he hit .305 and led the National League with 65 stolen bases. Pierre set the table for Florida in the postseason, hitting .301 with eight walks, four doubles, two triples, and seven RBIs as the Marlins beat the New York Yankees is six games to win their second World Series championship.

Pierre led the NL in steals twice (2001 and 2003) and the AL once (in 2010, when he swiped 68 bags as a member of the Chicago White Sox). He didn’t miss a game from 2003-07, playing all 162 each season and led the NL in hits twice (2004 and 2006).

Pierre ended his career by re-joining the Marlins in 2013. He hangs up his spikes with a .295 career batting average and .343 OBP with 255 doubles, 517 RBIs, and 614 stolen bases.

And yes, just 18 home runs.
