Jon Lester Appears on SI Cover, Odds of Cubs Winning World Series Skyrocket
Well, it’s official. On Monday, the Chicago Cubs held a press conference to introduce their new ace, No. 34, Jon Lester. As one of the biggest stories on the Hot Stove during this offseason, Sports Illustrated did its due diligence, having Lester appear on the cover of this week’s issue of the magazine.
Many questions were asked about Lester’s decision to go to Chicago, a team that hasn’t won a World Series since 1908. Lester had a quick response to questions like those: “I’m going in with the intention of winning in 2015.’’
“I don’t really want to say it was a sales job, because I really believe what they believe, that this could be the next dynasty over the next six, seven, eight, nine years,’’ Lester told SI. “I think I’m pretty good at knowing when it’s somebody you can believe or when you can see through the b.s. I felt like there was no b.s.’’
Some bookies are also feeling confident about the Cubs chances of winning the World Series, as their odds changed from 50/1 on October 30th, to 12/1 with the addition of Jon Lester.
Check out how other teams odds look to win the 2015 World Series, including the Red Sox, even without Jon Lester in their rotation. (Hint – the Red Sox odds are really, really good to win the AL pennant).
With Robert Zemeckis predicting a 2015 World Series win in “Back to the Future 2,’’ and now Vegas considering them a solid future betting option, perhaps Lester and the Cubs will finally end the Chicago World Series drought next baseball season.
