Red Sox Owners Primed to Purchase PawSox
Members of the Boston Red Sox ownership group are preparing to purchase the club’s Triple A affiliate, the Pawtucket Red Sox, sources tell the Globe.
It’s not known which members of the Red Sox ownership group — which includes John Henry, Larry Lucchino, and Tom Werner — will buy the team. Lucchino declined to comment to the Globe for the story.
The PawSox were long owned by Ben Mondor and his wife Madeleine. Ben Mondor passed away in 2010. The Sox farm team has had consistent management; president Mike Tamburro has been with the team since 1977, general manager Lou Schwechheimer since 1979.
The PawSox started out as a Double A team in 1970. They’ve been Boston’s official Triple A affiliate since 1977.
