Jose Canseco Shoots Himself in the Hand; Could Lose Finger
Former MLB outfielder Jose Canseco has been hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in the hand.
Police said Canseco shot himself in the left hand while cleaning his handgun at home and did not realize it was loaded. Canseco’s fiancée, Leila Knight, told TMZ Sports that Canseco was undergoing surgery as doctors try to save his middle finger.
Canseco played 17 years in the majors from 1985 to 2001, including two years with the Red Sox in 1995 and 1996. He was named the 1988 AL MVP while playing for am Oakland A’s that won three straight AL pennants from 1988-90 and World Series in 1989.
Canseco made headlines in 2005 with his book “Juiced,’’ which detailed his personal account of PED use in baseball in the 1980s and 1990s, and has become a symbol of the steroid era in MLB.
