Ten Years Ago, When the Red Sox Actually Broke the Curse

While beating the Yankees in miraculous fashion to win the ALCS in 2004, the Red Sox still had work to do in order to erase 86 years of frustration. And it was a four-game sweep, capped by another Derek Lowe shutdown performance 10 years ago today, that officially broke the dreaded Curse of the Bambino.

Boston.com was in the throws of an incredible year in 2004. It started with a Patriots Super Bowl win over the Panthers, followed by the Democratic National Convention in the city, and topped with what many New Englanders will forever consider the greatest moment in Boston Sports: The Red Sox winning their first World Series since 1918.
