Yaz: ‘I Would Put Ortiz Ahead of Me’
Has Big Papi eclipsed Yaz as the second-greatest Red Sox player of all time?
David Ortiz hit his 453rd career homer Monday night, moving him past Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski for 35th place on the all-time home run list.
Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy asked Yaz where Ortiz ranks on the Red Sox all-time list. Yastrzemski responded:
“I would say as a hitter, I would say he’s next to Ted (Williams)…I would put him ahead of me…He had more power than I had.’’
You can read Shaughnessy’s conversation with Yastrzemski, and his own take on each man’s legacy, in his Boston Globe column here.
