105-Year-Old Woman Throws Padres First Pitch

Agnes McKee weighs about 90 pounds and is not even 5 feet tall, according to the San Diego Union Tribune, yet she just pitched at a Major League Baseball game.

McKee, who is the oldest member of her retirement community, the Fairwinds, is now also the oldest person to ever throw out the first pitch for the Padres, the Tribune reported.

ESPN said:

“A group from her retirement home was planning an excursion to the game. Staff member Sheila Alston called the Padres to ask if they had interest in having McKee, who celebrated a birthday on Wednesday, throw out the first pitch.’’

The stars seemed to align for McKee, as Sundays at Petco Park in San Diego typically are reserved to honoring the US military. ESPN said that McKee’s husband, Harry, who died in 2008 at the age of 98 was in the US Navy during WWII.

“He would be so proud,’’ she told the Tribune about her upcoming pitch. “He would not be surprised at all. He always knew I was up for an adventure.’’

According to Yahoo! Sports, McKee had quite the workout regiment before her first pitch:

“Agnes McKee has been warming up for a couple months now, grabbing a baseball in her right hand, propping herself up against her walker and tossing the ball underhand to a staff member from the San Diego-area retirement community she calls home.’’

“Oh, I never expected to live so long,’’ McKee told camera crews at the game, the Tribune reported. “Just keep moving.’’
