Sox call up Bowden
The Red Sox recalled righthanded pitcher Michael Bowden from Pawtucket this morning. Bowden will wear No. 64 and be available for today’s game against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. The Sox did not have to release anyone with rosters having expanded after Sept. 1, so the team’s roster now stands at 32 players.
This will be Bowden’s third stint with the Sox this season after combining to allow seven runs over four innings in two relief appearances for Boston earlier this year. Over 24 starts with the PawSox this season, the 22-year-old went 4-6 and at the time of his promotion ranked 4th in the International League with a 3.13 ERA.
The use of Junichi Tazawa for 3 2/3 innings last night in relief of the struggling Paul Byrd necessitated the Red Sox calling up another pitcher.
