Tweet nothings from Henry, Teixeira
Could a war of words be brewing between Red Sox owner John Henry and Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira? Possibly, though it appears it will occur in 140 characters or less.
After the Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Yankees last night, improving to 8-0 on the season against their rival, Henry offered this brief, slightly snarky message on his Twitter account:
“the MT curse?”
The reference, of course, is to Teixeira, who rejected the Red Sox overtures in the offseason to sign an eight-year, $180 million contract with the Yankees. Henry and the Red Sox were not happy with the way Teixeira’s agent, Scott Boras, conducted business with the Red Sox during the negotiations.
Then, this afternoon, according to a Tweet by Tyler Kepner, the Yankees beat writer for the New York Times, Teixeira offered a reply:
Teixeira calls John Henry’s Twitter post “silly,” says he “won’t get in a war of words with a 70-something year old man”
Henry, for the record, is 59 years old.
