Sox re-sign 19

The Red Sox agreed to terms with 19 players on one-year contracts this afternoon — including lefthander Jon Lester.

But no worries, Sox fans. The signing today was more or less a formality and doesn’t impact the long-term contract Lester is reportedly on the verge of signing. The one-year deal will be overridden by the new contract once it is finalized.

Yahoo! Sports reported earlier this week that Lester, who won 16 games a year ago, had agreed to a five-year, $30 million deal with a team option for $13 million in 2014. But the team has not confirmed the deal, and Lester said yesterday that “nothing is final” yet.

Others agreeing to terms today were pitchers Michael Bowden, Clay Buchholz, Manny Delcarmen, Felix Doubront, Miguel Gonzalez, Devern Hansack, Hunter Jones, Wes Littleton, Justin Masterson and Ramon Ramirez; catchers Dusty Brown, George Kottaras and Mark Wagner; infielders Chris Carter, Argenis Diaz, and Jed Lowrie; and outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Jonathan Van Every.

With the agreements, all 40 players on Boston’s major league roster are under contract for the 2009 season.
