Report: A-Rod out 10 weeks

Alex Rodriguez just can’t seem to stay out of the headlines. And once again, the news appears to be bad, at least for the New York Yankees.

According to a report on ESPN.com, A-Rod will have surgery to remove a cyst from his right hip and will be out 10 weeks, his brother (note: brother, not cousin) told ESPNdeportes.com today.

According to the report, Joe Rodriguez said during a phone interview with reporter Enrique Rojas that surgery was recommended and rehabilitation would take about 10 weeks.

Surgery is scheduled for Monday in Colorado, a source close to the situation told the website.

“It’s a big blow for the whole family. Alex is destroyed,” Joe Rodriguez told ESPNdeportes.com. “We were all very excited to see him play with the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic. But the most important thing is to have a successful surgery so that Alex may continue his career.”

There has been no confirmation from the Yankees regarding the scheduled surgery. MLB.com is also reporting the story.

It certainly has been rocky start to the new season for Rodriguez. On Feb. 7, it was revealed he had tested positive for steroids in 2003. During a news conference several days later, he admitted he had used performance-enhancing drugs from 2001 to 2003, saying they came from the Dominican and were provided by his cousin.
