Boston Red Sox

Intentional grounding

With Manny Ramirez out of the game, there was no way the Yankees, with Alex Cora on second, were going to give David Ortiz a chance with first base open. Cory Lidle gave Ortiz the two-out intentional walk in order to face Gabe Kapler. Kapler grounded to Alex Rodriguez, who won the footrace with Cora to the third base bag to end the inning. Still scoreless through five.

NBC sports chairman Dick Ebersol is enjoying the game today in the owners’ box seats adjacent to the Red Sox dugout. A great “Real Sports” segment last week on Ebersol and how he deals with the death of his son, Teddy, who was a huge Red Sox fan.
