Easy as 1-2-3
David Wells enjoyed a 1-2-3 first inning to start things off this afternoon. It took Wells just nine pitches to get out of the first frame, a welcome start indeed for a team that desperately needs to stay away from its overused and abused bullpen.
In the bottom of the inning, David Ortiz reached on an infield single off Yankees starter Cory Lidle, but after a Manny Ramirez walk, Eric Hinske – who, when introduced, didn’t exactlty receive the standing ovation he did Friday – grounded out to second to end the inning.
