Yanks are routing
Think Terry Francona is a little freaked out about using his bullpen?
The Red Sox manager finally pulled Beckett in favor of Manny Delcarmen in the sixth inning after the Boston starting pitcher walked in the Yankees’ sixth run of the afternoon. Beckett threw a season-high 121 pitches (58 for strikes) and dished out a career-high nine walks on the afternoon.
To make matters worse, Jorge Posada broke things open with a bases loaded triple off Delcarmen to make it 10-5 Yankees. A little more than halfway through this five-game series against New York, Red Sox pitching has allowed 36 runs over 24 innings.
The line on Beckett: 5 2/3 innings, seven hits, nine runs, all earned. That’s the most runs Beckett has allowed all season, and his ERA has skyrocketed to 5.35. Never mind being a co-ace of the staff, the Red Sox have to wonder how much longer it’s going to be before he’s even effective again.
The nine walks are the most by a Red Sox pitcher since Roger Moret had nine in a complete game win against the White Sox on August 22, 1975.
