Boston Red Sox

Sox come alive

Randy Johnson had been carrying a no-hitter through 3 1/3 innings of work here at Fenway. No more.

Johnson dished out back-to-back walks to Mark Loretta and David Ortiz in the fourth inning, and Manny Ramirez then made Boston’s first hit count as he launched his fifth career home run off Johnson well over the Green Monster for a three-run bomb.

It was Ramirez’s seventh homer of the season against the Yankees, 48th of his career, moving him into sole possession of fifth place.

Javy Lopez, Mike Lowell, and Wily Mo Pena responded with a trio of consecutive hits as the Sox start to figure Johnson out and now lead, 4-3. The “Ran-dy” chant has started to percolate in the stands.

For the record, the last no-hitter in Major League Baseball just happened to be Johnson’s perfect game while with Arizona in 2004 against the Braves.
