It’s up to Beckett

Josh Beckett seeks redemption this afternoon against the Yankees, the team that handed him his worst loss of the season back in June.

On June 5, New York rocked Beckett to the tune of seven hits and eight runs, seven earned, in just 1 1/3 innings of work. It was his shortest outing of the season. That nearly matched a career-worst for the Red Sox righty, who has lasted just one inning twice in his career, the last time in 2003 while with the Marlins.

Beckett hasn’t won since July 24 at Oakland, and has recorded just two victories since the All-Star break.

Other items of note:

  • Jon Bon Jovi received a morning tour of Fenway and signed autographs for fans down the left field line.
  • WEEI sports talk radio (celebrity?) Frank from Gloucester was in the service elevator a short time ago, showing off the birthday card Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino sent to him, along with a ticket to today’s game.
  • Yankees manager Joe Torre said that New York starter Carl Pavano will make a rehab start tomorrow at Double-A Trenton.
