Johnny on the spot
Johnny Damon hit an RBI single off Rudy Seanez in the top half of the ninth, as New York extended its lead to 12-3. It was the third hit of the day for Damon, who was just a double short of hitting for the cycle.
Eric Hinske just lost some luster on his otherwise golden debut, dropping a fly ball off the bat of Derek Jeter for his first error with the Sox. Is the “Pena would have had it” refrain far behind?
Lots of red, blue, and green shimmering in the sunlight down in the stands, as plenty Sox fans have made their exits with the lopsided score.
Those that were left were all over Rudy Seanez, who was roughed up and couldn’t find the plate. Seanez walked in the Yankees’ 12th run of the game with the bases loaded, emitting a large number of groans and boos from the fans. I think it’s safe to say they’ve had it with Rudy.
Francona elected not to have anyone warm up in the pen during the ninth inning debacle either. Seanez or bust. Seanez threw 47 pitches over just 1 1/3 innings.
Approaching four hours, another typical Red Sox-Yankees affair.
