Back and forth
This won’t go down into the annals of best games ever played, but it’s entertaining if you like offense, that much is for certain.
The Red Sox took a 10-7 lead in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Mark Loretta. As good a day as Damon is having, Loretta’s isn’t bad either, is it? In Game 1, he had three doubles, and tonight he’s already 3 for 4 with four runs batted in. Again, in the fifth.
The pitching has been nothing short of atrocious though. Julian Tavarez has been the most effective of them all, allowing two hits over 1 1/3 innings. Brian Bruney is the sacrificial lamb on the mound for the Yankees, getting used in relief of Ron Villone, who allowed three runs in his one inning-plus of work.
