Boston Red Sox

Loud and clear

As it turned out, Josh Beckett received the loudest ovation at Fenway Park.

After walking Carlos Beltran with two outs in the eighth, Terry Francona removed his starter, and Beckett received a thunderous ovation, louder than the one that greeted opponent Pedro Martinez. Beckett, who tipped his cap to the crowd in acknowldgement, should win his 10th game of the season, with the Sox leading 10-2.

He allowed five hits and two runs over 7 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking just one. He threw 106 pitches, 69 for strikes.

Javier Lopez is on the mound.
