A truly special moment just now at Fenway, where the Red Sox showed a montage video on the JumboTron of Wally the Green Monster and Mr. Met enjoying all the famous attractions of Boston. We kid you not.
The Red Sox signed compensatory draft pick Caleb Clay today. Clay, a righthanded pitcher out of Cullman High School in Cullman, Ala., was the 44th pick overall in this year’s draft. He was 10-1 with a 1.29 ERA and five saves for Cullman this season and also hit .475 at the plate.
In addition, the Red Sox signed their seventh-round pick, shortstop Kristopher Negron out of Cosumnes River College, and signed undrafted free agent lefthanded pitcher David Timm from Embry-Riddle College. All three players were assigned to the Gulf Coast Red Sox in the Rookie Gulf Coast League.
Pawtucket lefty Craig Breslow was named to this year’s International League squad for the Triple-A All-Star Game. Breslow is 5-1 with a 3.23 ERA and five saves for the PawSox.
